| If you consider the fact that more than 95% of all convicted dangerous drivers are males, it's no wonder that women's insurance is cheaper. Although it is also true that women have the same number of car accidents as men, they are not as serious and so tend to cost less to repair. Women's driving patterns differ from their male counterparts by driving slower and for shorter distances.
The difference between the sexes is at its height in the late teens and twenties. Once over 30 the statistics are not so different for men and women as they start to even out and men over 75 are often regarded as the safer risk. Things could well change though. In the past 65% of men and 55% of women admitted to driving in an aggressive manner and although women are now driving more in the line of their work then ever before, the statistics still favour women as the more careful driver and therefore, pay less on their policiy.
Home Office figures show a jump in up to 50% in the number of women getting traffic convictions in the last eight years. The gap between men and women is narrowing according to Peter Marsh of the Social Issues Research Centre.
